If you want door-to-door service
from your San Jose or Arenal hotel to Puerto Viejo, there is one
minibus shared ride service daily from each of those places to
Puerto Viejo. San Jose to Puerto Viejo service leaves at 7:50am
daily and drops off at Guarana about 12:30pm. Price is $35-39 per
person. Arenal to Puerto Viejo service leaves daily at 6 a.m. and
drops you off at Guarana about 11:30a.m. for $39-45 p/p.
There is the option of hiring a private driver who will bring you directly from either San Jose International Airport or your San Jose hotel (or any other location in Costa Rica) on your own schedule. This is a great way to maximize your vacation because it's the only way to get to the coast on the same day as your plane arrives if you have an afternoon arrival. Cost is $160 for up to 8 people. Don't mind getting wet?! Another option is to take advantage of the deal offered by our whitewater rafting company. They pick you up at your hotel in your choice of San Jose, Arenal or Puerto Viejo at the beginning of the day, you get breakfast at the rafting company center 2 hours later. Your stuff is securely stored. You spend the next 4+ hours on a unforgettable river experience with exciting rapids and unspoiled nature. You have lunch on the river.
