Location

Cabinas Guaranas is situated in one of the most quiet and central streets in Puerto Viejo, 200 m. from the beach. The hotel is safe and private and a lush, tropical garden refreshes the environment and view with all of its fantastic flowers and tones of green. Getting Here

Getting to Puerto Viejo is pretty easy. There are a number of different options. There are four public buses that leave daily from the Caribbean terminal in San Jose. Price is about $9 per person. Bus schedules sometimes sell out so it is recommended you buy your ticket in advance if you can. You can find the schedule here.

If you want to come straight to Guarana from the San Jose airport on the bus, we recommend you use our airport pickup + bus ticket service. A driver will purchase the bus tickets for the bus you select then meet your flight and bring you straight to the Caribe Bus Terminal. No hassle, no worries about not getting a seat.

If you want door-to-door service from your San Jose or Arenal hotel to Puerto Viejo, there are several companies which offer minibus shared ride service from San Jose and Arenal to Puerto Viejo for about $39 per person. This service must be reserved in advance.

There is the option of hiring a private driver who will bring you directly from either San Jose International Airport or your San Jose hotel (or any other location in Costa Rica) on your own schedule. This is a great way to maximize your vacation because it's the only way to get to the coast on the same day as your plane arrives if you have an afternoon arrival. Cost is $190 for up to 8 people. Don't mind getting wet?! Another option is to take advantage of the deal offered by our whitewater rafting company. They pick you up at your hotel in your choice of San Jose, Arenal or Puerto Viejo at the beginning of the day, you get breakfast at the rafting company center 2 hours later. Your stuff is securely stored. You spend the next 4+ hours on a unforgettable river experience with exciting rapids and unspoiled nature. You have lunch on the river. At the end of the day you return to the rafting centre, pickup your stuff and are delivered to your destination hotel. So it's like getting your transport to/from Puerto Viejo for free! Area

Puerto Viejo was first inhabited by black Caribbean peoples. For this reason it has a cultural feel somewhat like Jamaica and English is widely spoken. As a tourist you will find all the amenities of a small, colorful Caribbean paradise...

And In the evening your only problem will be to choose between diverse restaurants that offer between a delicious afro-Caribbean meal to the highest quality of international cuisine, or to go dance at one of the exotic discos by the ocean or have a drink listening reggae or calypso music in one of the local
bars in town...
